if you don’t know who Jorge Luis Borges is, he is famous for “writing stories about stories”. Like he’d write a story about in which there existed a textbook, and discuss the textbook, but the textbook is fictional (getting you to imagine a world in which such a book exists, and what might be in it, is a kind of shortcut. We can all discuss the book even if it doesn’t exist).

someone wrote an incredible fiction/nonfiction book about what happens in the year 2025 and it was such a beautiful inspiring vision with step by step instructions that people just started making it happen and small things in the book came true and it made it go viral https://x.com/DefenderOfBasic/status/1821338429390540931
He sent his memory spiraling back through time, back through the precipitous falls and gradual ascents of grand civilizations, back to the vantage point where his knowledge of history gave way to biology
Until The End of Time by Brian Greene is a great companion piece to unpack this paragraph. Specifically chapter 2 where he traces exactly this grand unfolding.
